Viticultor and Winemaker
Born and raised in Mendoza, Argentina, Cristian holds more than 20 years of hands on experience in the grape growing and winemaking industries in Argentina. After attending a viticulture-centered high school, he started his Agronomic Engineering studies at the local Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. Upon graduation, he is hired by Navarro Correas as winemaker and also to fully manage one of its largest properties called “La Heredad”. In 2002 he joins Moet Chandon Argentina as winemaker in charge of the white wines of the big wine conglomerate and also as Production Planning and Logistics Manager for the company. Between 2004 and 2009 he becomes the General Manager and Chief Winemaker for Bodegas Cruzat, a medium sized winery focused on making sparkling wines that started from scratch under his supervision and quickly grew into being recognized as one of the top sparkling houses in Argentina.
Starting 2009, Cristian partners with his long time rugby friend Martin Castro and together, they fully dedicate themselves to making terroir driven wines exclusively using fruit that comes from vineyards that Cristian fully owns and/or manage. Cristian wants to bring a sense of place to the wines he makes so he starts making wine from his family vineyards located in Valle de Uco… and he puts his last name on the label, calling the whole line: Allamand.
In 2012, and with the idea of re-enforcing the focus on quality and the objective of making wines with a sense of place, Luis Feld joins the team and along with Martin Castro they form Luminis, a project that counts with its own 50+ hectares of vineyards, a small winery located in Maipu, and two distinct lines of wines with a strong sense of place: the Luminis line of wines destined to express the traditional characteristics of the Lujan de Cuyo area, and the Allamand line of wines, created with the idea of expressing the uniqueness, and finesse of the Valle de Uco region.
Cristian has also done extensive work as vineyard consultant for more than 15 years and has ample experience and exposure to the many regions where grapes are cultivated in Argentina. He has also worked harvest outside Argentina in 2003 at Cardinal and also in 2011 at Peay Vineyards next to Vanessa Wong, one of the most renowned winemakers in the United States.
